Wānaka and Central Otago are exceptionally well suited to solar — but only when
systems are designed with local conditions in mind.
The region experiences high sunshine hours, low humidity and clear skies, which
creates strong solar generation potential across much of the year. At the same time,
winters are very cold, energy demand is high, and households increasingly rely on
electric heating and have higher requirements for lighting and hot water.
Solar allows homeowners to generate a portion of their power on site, reducing reliance
on the grid at the times it’s under the most pressure. When designed properly, it
becomes a practical way to stabilise household energy costs over the long term.
